Our most recent event, in October 2020, brought together our volunteer mentors and mentees (past, present & future) online, on Zoom to discuss some of the common mentoring themes, allowing the sharing of ideas and best practice.

Following introductions and some words from our sponsors, Ashdown Hurrey and Youbiquity Ltd, we moved into break-out rooms for discussions led by our mentors. Discussions typically included ‘funding & development’, ‘risk & resilience planning’ and ‘lessons learnt from lockdown’. The only complaint being is that we ran out of time to chat through these important topics in full.

After feeding back from the discussions, we were pleased to hear from some of our recent mentees, sharing success stories of how charity mentors has helped their organisations move forward.

100% of completed feedback questionnaires said that they would be either ‘likely or ‘highly likely’ to attend a similar event again in the future.

Previous event

The evening was attended by close to 50 leaders within the Third Sector, alongside many of the volunteer mentors and leaders from 3VA and Action in rural Sussex (AirS) together with the Lord Lieutenant for East Sussex, Peter Field, who opened the occasion including words of thanks to the event sponsors, Reid Briggs Insurance and Rix & Kay Solicitors.

Delegates took part in ‘round’ table discussions led by the mentors and heard directly from some recent mentees, including Victoria Sparkes who runs an organisation called Muma Nurture, providing therapeutic support for fertility, pregnancy & related loss.

Victoria said, “The mentoring helped us understand the process of becoming a charity.”
